Most people prefer the softer set-up of the other bikes for on-road. The 640 has more power than the Yamahas and a lot less weight. My overriding impression from the XT660 tests was 'my doG that thing is heavy' but it's comparable with most in the class: all but the DR650 are 25 kg-ish heavier than the KTMs.
